Died 23rd February 2014
Georgina Drinkwater (30), also known as ‘Georgina China’, died at about 03:00am on 23rd February 2014 in Harrow Road, North Kensington, West London. She was the mother of two children and was pregnant.
She is believed to have fallen from the third floor of a building known as Orpheus House and was pronounced dead after being found by London Ambulance Service. She reportedly suffered catastrophic head injuries. The death is being treated as suspicious.
A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. A post mortem is planned.
An inquiry is being carried out by the Met Police Homicide and Major Crime command. Detective Inspector Colette Smyth said: “Even in the early hours of Sunday, Harrow Road was busy with traffic and people walking around. I am specifically appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the woman fall from Orpheus House or anyone who was in the area and witnessed this tragic incident to contact the police.”
A friend of Ms Drinkwater, who did not want to be named, said “I heard she was trying to get away from someone when she fell. I have known her for a long time, she was such a good girl. I feel for her children.”
A Facebook page believed to belong to her includes many pictures of two young girls believed to be her children.
After her death, friends left dozens of floral tributes next to a giant portrait of Ms Drinkwater at the scene in Queens’ Park.
Karen Singh, a friend, said: “I used to teach Grace, her daughter, dancing. She is such a beautiful little girl, just like her mum. You won’t find anyone around here who will have a bad word to say about her.”
Rita Parker added: “She was lovely girl. Very popular and full of life. I don’t want to say anymore until I know what happened.”
One message attached to the flowers read : “RIP Georgina, gone but never forgotten. A true angel, a very special friend. We will never forget you.”
Another said she was “ an inspirational, caring, loving soul” and added “I pray for your little girl and Pauline (her mum), they will have all the support and care for them in every way possible.”
Nick Bicar wrote on twitter: “Can’t believe what I’ve just heard. R.I.P Georgina China. You was a beautiful woman and wonderful mother to your kids” while Elle Pearman said: “Can’t believe what I’ve just heard!!! Rest in peace Georgina China… Never forgotten!!!.”
Ms Drinkwater was reportedly of part Malaysian heritage and it seems this is why she was nicknamed ‘Georgina China’.
